Installing the Linux Desktop Client

This page contains information about installing the Linux desktop client for Oracle Calendar.

Using the Oracle Calendar desktop client, you can create and manage meetings, Daily Notes, Day Events, and tasks. If you have been granted designate rights by another user, you can create agenda entries on that user's behalf. You can easily compare schedules or verify other users' availability using a convenient combined group view, and check scheduling conflicts before creating meetings. The Oracle Calendar desktop client includes an online address book enabling you to keep track of your contacts and classify them according to configurable categories.

Note: You need Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later, or Mozilla, to use the Oracle Calendar desktop client online help. The directory that contains the Netscape or Mozilla executable file must be set in the installation path you specify.

Installing the Oracle Calendar desktop client for Linux

  1. Download the Oracle Calendar including Outlook Connector software package from the CITES Software WebStore. (For more detailed instructions on navigating the WebStore, see Downloading Oracle Calendar from the CITES Software WebStore.)
  2. Ensure that you have administrative privileges.
  3. Unpack the distribution archive in a directory. /usr/local is the sample directory used in the following instructions.

/tmp gtar zxvf /tmp/cal_linux_[version number].tar.gz

  1. Change to the OracleCalendar_inst directory.
cd OracleCalendar_inst
  1. To install using a full graphical interface, run gui_install.sh. To install using a text mode interface, run text_install.sh. You will be prompted for installation and shortcut directories.
  2. Make sure you are using POSIX for example in your ctime.sh file

  3. When the client asks you for the Oracle Calendar Server, enter calendar.uiuc.edu:5730 in the dialog box. 5730 refers to the port number.
